How I approach design

Test

Evaluate

While every project presents unique challenges and specific requirements, I firmly believe that a strong design thinking process is essential to creating user-centric digital experiences. This approach empowers me to tailor my design methodology to each project with confidence and focusing on achieving objectives. My design process has 4 fundamental stages:

Stage One: Define

This kick-off stage requires a cohort of diverse data to understand the UX challenges. This is a heuristic foundation before tackling any solutions. Different research methods can be used during this first phase, such as: user research, customer database study, gathering client requirements and insights, market research, etc. Then, I define a problem statement, user personas with user stories, and an action scope. The last step in this stage involves stakeholders to align on UX artefacts and the project scope.

Stage Two: Ideate

This second stage consists of creating designs by exploring different solutions and quick prototyping. These actions can happen solo or in a group with key stakeholders during brainstorming or design critique workshop. The exploration results include moodboard, wireframes, mockups, or low-fidelity prototypes. Once the solutions are narrowed down, the chosen ones will be developed into high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes.

Stage Three: Test

Conducting user tests is crucial to see if the new solution or design satisfies the initial requirements. The feedback and insights gathered from stakeholders and testers are translated into iterations in the designs and the prototype. I have done both in-person and online user tests. During the refinement, there may be multiple rounds of iterations in order to ensure the goal-hitting rate of the new solution. Once the new design satisfies all the criteria of acceptance, it is ready for implementation.

Stage Four: Evaluate

I prioritise high-quality designs and collaborate closely with developers during the handoff. This seamless collaboration guarantees design feasibility and fidelity in the final feature or product. Depending on the sprint and the team, I actively engage in quality assurance to verify that the final feature or product meets the design intent and fulfils usability requirements. Once the key metrics report is available or during a retrospective session with stakeholders, I am attentive to user data which is useful for continuous improvements.

Last but not least, I value…
