Project Overview
Outcome
As Rydoo was launched in June 2018, the company grew quickly. There was an important demand of growth and client acquisition. In 2019, the marketing department decided to rebuild the whole website with a cleaner code and layout that would allow scalability and higher performance. Therefore, the goal of creating a Design System is to optimise the workflow of the team.
The project was expected to take place within 2 months and with a team of 3:
Claudio Pascariello, Senior Information Architect, leading the project
Gabriel Lecointere, Front-End developer, in charge of implementation
Camille Le (me), Digital Designer, in charge of creating and maintaining the design system
Upon delivery, the Rydoo website’s design system satisfied these requirements:
Provide a complete inventory of the responsive components
Redesign the existing components to be scalable and content-friendly
Provide templates with a clear layout and easy-to-edit components
Principles
The Rydoo Design System, drawing inspiration from Brad Frost's Atomic Design methodology, is meticulously crafted to enhance collaboration between designers and developers. It is structured into 5 key phases: Atoms, Molecules, Organisms, Templates, and Pages. In addition, a foundation segment has been integrated into this UI pattern inventory, serving as a centralised hub for website brand elements, such as colours, typography, logo, icons, shapes and elevation.
Learning & Takeaways
This project is my first discovery of Design System. Learning and practicing this new tool not only enhances my collaboration with developers and stakeholders but also highlights the critical aspect of scalability in web design. Despite external constraints preventing my involvement in the implementation phase, the experience of creating a design system from the ground up for a marketing website stands out as a significant learning opportunity for me.
